Black self-rejection and self-hatred are among the most damaging consequences of white supremacy and anti-Blackness.

I'm 30 years old, and only recently have I begun confronting the anti-Blackness I've internalized. It's difficult work, but it may be some of the most important work Black Americans can do. The process of deprogramming has to begin within us.

My hope is that we would extend the same compassion Claudia showed, both to ourselves and to those still carrying the weight of anti-Black lies.

Black is so damn beautiful. ♥️✊🏾

I did not know this, the specifics. Some of the most beautiful women I've known are black women. Some of the kindest, most empathetic souls have been black women. Thank you so much for sharing this.

Unfortunately, in India, my home country, there is currently an internalized belief in some communities that people with darker skin are less valuable and lower in class. This is due to racism developed over hundreds of years of unjust colonialism by Europeans and through the caste system. This can be seen in products that promote looking "fair" and, sometimes, blatant discrimination.

Thank you for writing this article. By writing these, you are spreading the message that needs to be spread; that racism has not completely vanished, and it still causes people to be mistreated today. This is an issue that never fully disappeared. We still have a lot of work to do to solve this problem.

Thanks so much for reading and sharing how India is experiencing the harms of European colonization much like the US. Around the world, people with darker skin are seen as less valuable because of the enduring impact of White settler colonialism.
